Η εβδομάδα μετά το Πάσχα είναι πολύ ιδιαίτερη στο Σινά -είναι περίοδος
εορτασμού και αξίζει να συμμετέχετε στις επισκέψεις που οργανώνουν οι
μοναχοί στα κοντινά γυναικεία μοναστήρια όπως η Τάρφα και η Ραϊθώ -τα
οποία εκείνες τις ημέρες ανοίγουν τις πόρτες τους στους επισκέπτες και
αποτελούν πραγματικά διαμάντια τόσο για την τοποθεσία όσο και για τις
μοναχές που τα κατοικούν.
Η ευρύτερη περιοχή προσφέρεται για πεζοπορία, σαφάρι στην έρημο και
περιπέτειες στους αμμόλοφους, διαμονή στις κοντινές οάσεις -κάποιες με
πραγματικά πανέμορφα καταλύματα, και εξορμήσεις στα κοντινά χωριά των
Βεδουίνων της φυλής Gebelia (οι ορεσίβιοι) που έχουν ελληνικές καταβολές
από την εποχή του Ιουστινιανού. Για πιο ...παραδοσιακές διακοπές μπορείτε
να πάτε για καταδύσεις και μπάνιο στα παράλια -από το πολύ τουριστικό
Sharm el-Sheikh, στα πιο λιτά Dahab και Nuweiba, ή το Εθνικό (Θαλάσσιο)
Πάρκο Ras Muhammad στην περιοχή γνωστή ως ‘η Ριβιέρα της Ερυθράς
Θάλασσας’.
Τόσο η Μονή όσο και τα γύρω χωριά πάσχουν από αρκετές ελλείψεις και
υπάρχει ένα μεγάλο δίκτυο εθελοντών που βοηθά με προσφορά αγαθών και
υπηρεσιών (οι οδοντίατροι κάνουν θραύση). Μπορείτε να φέρετε φάρμακα,
ρούχα, παπούτσια και παιχνίδια για τα Βεδουϊνάκια, και βέβαια όσες
περισσότερες καραμέλες μπορείτε -μην εκπλαγείτε αν δείτε ανθρώπους
και μεγάλης ηλικίας να τρέχουν μέσα στα κατσάβραχα να φτάσουν το
αυτοκίνητό σας για να ζητήσουν καραμέλες!

The week after Easter is very special in Sinai -it is a period of celebration
and rejoicing and it is worth taking part in one of the excursions organised
by the monks to one of the nunneries of the area like that of Tarfa or
Raitho, which open their doors to visitors during those days, and are considered
true gems both for their location as well as for the nuns inhabiting
them.
The greater area has a lot to offer from hiking, to desert safaris, playing
with the sand dunes, and visiting nearby oasis (some with very unique
lodgings), to outings at the local Bedouin villages of the Gebelia tribe (the
mountain people) who have Greek origins -from the time of Emperor Justinian.
For a more ...traditional holiday you can engage in snorkelling,
scuba diving and swimming at the coast -from the very touristic Sharm el-
Sheikh, to the more modest Dahab and Nuweiba, or the Ras Muhammad
(Marine) National Park in the area known as ‘the Red Sea Riviera’.
Both the Monastery and the surrounding villages suffer from many shortages,
and there is a huge international network of volunteers offering
goods and services (dentists are very popular). You can bring along some
standard medicine, clothes shoes and toys for the little Bedouin children,
and of course copious amounts of candy -do not be surprised if you spot
even the elderly running through the rocky terrain to reach your car and
ask for some!
