Concept
Boombarstick is the independent art & music festival taking place this july in Dignano city,
Istria. This strategically settled Croatian region in the centuries has been under the power
of the Republic of Venice, Napoleon, the Haspburgs,the Reign of Italy, Yugoslavia and, after
a little Croatia as a nation period, soon will meet the EU.
So, forced to get fastly used to fake myths and every kind of shift, nationality ones included,
Istria’s people never had the time to stop and thinking about their identity. And not about
their tradition especially. A multiethnic, multifaceted tradition: a kaleidoscopic mix of customs
and usage, folklores and knowledges, always different but never incompatible.
It’s not by chance if Istrian region is the only in Croatia where diverse ethnic groups coexist,
every one with its educational background; there’s who feels himself Croat, who Italian,
who Bosnian, who Serb and so on. But now, Istria’s people will have to face globalisation,
both on an economical and cultural level, engaging the “being European” dare. With all its
pros and cons.
