Loving a band that isn ‘t supposed to be playing the music you
normally listen to, is something that says a lot...
Cherries on a Blacklist are surely not a band of easy solutions and
recipes, not a band that ‘s willing to compromise, which has been
made clear by their course so far.
Leaving their birthplace Rhodes, Greece, in order to accomplish
their vision, George, MALaPERT and Andreas moved to Hamburg,
Germany, sometime in between 2005 and 2006. They formed
Cherries on a Blacklist along with bass player and vocalist, Sebastian
Knop, to release very soon afterwards their first EP, titled ‘14’.
In 2009 Knop left the band and was replaced by the Mexican
Daniel Gonzales. Cherries on a Blacklist from that point onwards
acquire an integrated identity based on a simple, yet- given the
“fast ‘n easy consumption” times we live in- difficult concept: The
production of their own music, devoid of scenes and genres.
It is indeed easy to immitate, but it’s impossible to become something
you ‘re not. Cherries on a Blacklist have always known that,
this is why they are not- and never will be- a “copy-past” band. It ‘s
hard but crucial, to open a new path for yourself and for music, to
create a crowd of your own that consists of open-minded people
who don ‘t judge things by “hype”. People who are also artists in
a way and have the courage to trust their own instincts and taste.
That’s not a new concept or path. It’s the path followed by Led
Zeppelin, Depeche Mode, Rammstein, David Bowie and many
more artists who were never defined by any scene or genre, but
only by their names...
In a few words, Cherries on a Blacklist haven ‘t got a “target
group”, they ‘re not about marketing. They are well aware of the
fact there aren ‘t any –there shouldn ‘t be- boundaries between
genres, there ‘s only music. And one last thing. Perhaps the most
important. Cherries on a Blacklist are friends. They ‘re a group
of buddies who love the same things and realize that if it wasn ‘t
for them all, the band simply wouldn ‘t exist. That the final result
depends on all four, no frontman or manager will decide what ‘s
“best” for them. This is obvious not only in their photos, but also in
their energy on the stage. Even if you ‘re not completely satisfied
by listening to them, you will certainly have a great time just by
watching them playing, interacting with eachother and the crowd,
and of course, having fun.

Το να κολλάς με ένα συγκρότημα που υποτίθεται πως δεν παίζει τη
μουσική του γούστου σου, είναι κάτι που λέει πολλά.
Οι Cherries on a Blacklist σίγουρα δεν είναι το συγκρότημα της
εύκολης λύσης, του εύκολου δρόμου ή του συμβιβασμού, κάτι που
φαίνεται ξεκάθαρα από την έως τώρα πορεία τους.
Αφήνοντας την Ελλάδα και τη γενέτειρά τους, Ρόδο, για την
πραγματοποίηση του μουσικού τους οράματος, ο Γιώργος, ο MALa-
PERT και ο Αντρέας φθάνουν στο Αμβούργο της Γερμανίας κάπου
ανάμεσα στο 2005 και στο 2006. Ιδρύουν τους Cherries on a Blacklist
μαζί με τον Sebastian Knop και πολύ γρήγορα κυκολοφορούν το
πρώτο τους EP με τίτλο ‘14’.
Το 2009 αποχωρεί ο Knop και τη θέση του παίρνει ο Μεξικανός
Daniel Gonzales. Οι Cherries on a Blacklist από εκέινο το σημείο
κι έπειτα αποκτούν ολοκληρωμένη ταυτότητα. Το concept απλό
αλλά όχι εύκολοχώνευτο, σε μια εποχή γρήγορης κατανάλωσης: η
δημιουργία της δική τους μουσικής, χώρια από σκηνές και genres.
Είναι εύκολο να μιμηθείς, αλλά είναι αδύνατο να γίνεις κάτι που δεν
είσαι. Αυτό οι Cherries on a Blacklist το ήξεραν ανέκαθεν, γι’ αυτό
άλλωστε και δεν υπήρξαν ποτέ άλλη μία μπάντα «copy-paste». Είναι
πολύ δύσκολο όμως ουσιαστικό, να χαράξεις το δικό σου δρόμο,
να σχηματίσεις το δικό σου κοινό, από ανθρώπους ανοιχτούς που
δε φορούν παρωπίδες, δεν κρίνουν τα πράγματα βάσει του “hype”,
είναι κατά κάποιο τρόπο κι οι ίδιοι καλλιτέχνες κι έχουν το θάρρος να
εμπιστεύονται το προσωπικό τους γούστο.
Ο δρόμος αυτός δεν είναι καινούριος. Είναι ο δρόμος των Led Zeppelin,
των Depeche Mode, των Rammstein, του David Bowie και
πολλών άλλων, οι οποίοι δεν χαρακτηρίζονται από την απάντηση
στην ερώτηση «σε ποια σκηνή ανήκουν», αλλά μονάχα από το όνομά
τους...
Με λίγα λόγια οι Cherries on a Blacklist δεν έχουν target group.
Γνωρίζουν πως δεν υπάρχουν σκηνές και είδη, παρά μόνο η μουσική.
Και κάτι ακόμα. Ίσως και το πιο σημαντικό. Οι Cherries on a Blacklist
είναι φίλοι. Είναι μια παρέα κολλητών που αγαπούν τα ίδια
πράγματα και ξέρουν πως αν δεν ήταν οι τέσσερίς τους, δεν θα
υπήρχε συγκρότημα, πως το αποτέλεσμα εξαρτάται από όλους, όχι
από έναν frontman ή ένα manager που θα αποφασίσει ποιο είναι το
«σωστό» γι’ αυτούς. Αυτό φαίνεται ακόμα και στις φωτογραφίες τους,
αλλά και από την ενέργεια που βγάζουν πάνω στη σκηνή. Ακόμα και
αν δεν ικανοποιηθεί κανείς ακούγοντάς τους, σίγουρα θα περάσει
τέλεια απλά παρακολουθώντας τους να παίζουν, να αλληλεπιδρούν
μεταξύ τους και με το κοινό.

έρχονται στην Ελλάδα για μια tour που θα διαρκέσει μέχρι τέλη
Μαΐου.
