3. Contestants in riflery must be certified as being eligible through the<br />

GHSA Office.<br />

4. The first date for riflery practice is August 16, <strong>2004</strong>, and the first date<br />

of competition is October 4, <strong>2004</strong>. The end of riflery season is May<br />

31, <strong>2005</strong>.<br />

5. <strong>School</strong>s may enter invitational competitions using small bore (.22)<br />

rifles.<br />

6. JROTC programs may use school rifle team members in JROTC<br />

program competitive events. The athletes must be currently enrolled<br />

in JROTC and be entered as a JROTC unit and not as a school team.<br />

7. Individual rifle athletes may compete in non-GHSA events as long<br />

as they do not represent their school, do not wear a school uniform,<br />

and are not coached by their high school coach (“unattached<br />

competitor”).<br />

B. The latest edition of the “NATIONAL STANDARD THREE-POSITION AIR<br />

RIFLE RULES”<br />

(cost $2.00, published by the National Three-Position Air Rifle Council,<br />

Camp Perry, P. O. Box 576, Port Clinton, OH 43452 -<br />

for precision air rifle will govern all GHSA matches except the following:<br />

1. The course of fire will be the team event 4x3x10. All matches will be<br />

shoulder to shoulder. Postal matches will not be accepted. Team<br />

members will be distributed equally between relays if more than one<br />

relay is used.<br />

2. Except at the State Championship and Sectional competitions, the<br />

coach may assist team members (without disturbing other shooters),<br />

but may not physically assist the shooters in loading, cocking or<br />

adjusting the sights.<br />

3. The “pair” referred to in National Standard Rule 6.6 will consist of a<br />

scorer from each team if outside scorers with no interest in the<br />

outcome are not used.<br />

4. The 20-minute protest (Rule 9.1) may be less than 20 minutes if a<br />

shorter time is established by the Rifle Area or if agreed upon by both<br />

coaches prior to the beginning of the match.<br />

C. Each Area shall draw up schedules for each team in the Area.<br />

1. Each Area schedule must be filed with the GHSA Office.<br />

2. The home or host schools should fax or e-mail team and individual<br />

scores to the area chairperson by the next day after completion of<br />

the match.<br />

3. Four competitors comprise a rifle team and will be used for post<br />

season competition. Areas may organize their competitions as they<br />

elect in regard to the number of team members involved as long as<br />

the top four (4) scores count toward the school's team score.<br />

4. Standings will be determined by won-loss results. A team may<br />

compete against only one other team in a given regular season
