<strong>International</strong> <strong>Incoming</strong> Student’s <strong>Guide</strong><br />

• Fiscal code (co<strong>di</strong>ce fiscale)<br />

• university enrolment certificate<br />

• Identity document or passport<br />

• Revenue stamp of 14,62 € (marca da bollo)<br />

Once the bank account has been opened there are no service/maintenance fees. When a<br />

third party sends money to the account holder by wire transfer, she/he has to send<br />

money to the bank first (it means that the money can not be transferred <strong>di</strong>rectly to bank<br />

account holder’s account). The money is available after 5 working days and the bank<br />

account holder can decide whether to receive money in cash or to deposit it in his/her<br />

account.<br />

There are several banks in <strong>Pavia</strong>. UBI (Banca Popolare Commercio & Industria) is just a<br />

few steps from the university central buil<strong>di</strong>ngs:<br />

9.2.2 Lost or stolen cre<strong>di</strong>t card<br />

Call the emergency numbers:<br />

American Express: 06 72 90 03 47<br />

Diners: 800 864 064 (toll free)<br />

Master Card: 800 870 866 (toll free)<br />

Visa: 800 819 014 (toll free)<br />

Cartasì: 800 15 16 16 (toll free). Once you have blocked you card, you must go to the<br />

Police to file a loss/theft report. Then you have 48 hours to fax the police report at one of<br />

the following numbers: 02 3488 4140/4141. You are also supposed to inform your bank.<br />

9.3 Telephones<br />

First of all: Italy’s <strong>International</strong> code is 0039 (or +39), so to call Italy from abroad you<br />

should <strong>di</strong>al 0039 and then the required number. (like: +39 0382 xxxx).<br />

9.3.1 Public phones Cabine telefoniche<br />

Public phones are available outdoors, in many public squares and streets, as well in<br />

commercial outlets such as bars and restaurants. You will need to purchase a phone card<br />

from the tobacconist’s, newsstand, post office or petrol station to be able to use public<br />

phones. If you are phoning your home country it might be worthwhile to purchase a preaid<br />

Phone card before coming to Italy. Public phones do not usually accept cre<strong>di</strong>t cards.<br />
