dimension in both the present and future curriculum. The extent to which an Irish dimension<br />

is taught will vary between different contexts, but the rationale and way in which it is brought<br />

into the curriculum is <strong>of</strong> more importance than the amount that is taught. At this point it is<br />

appropriate to conclude by repeating the following reference made at the start <strong>of</strong> this thesis:<br />

… Rather than the manufactured clash <strong>of</strong> civilisations we need to concentrate on the<br />

slow working together <strong>of</strong> cultures that overlap, borrow from one another, and live<br />

together in far more interesting ways than any abridged or inauthentic mode <strong>of</strong><br />

understanding can allow. (Said, 2003, xxii).
