Area : Marr
Date of visit : 18/07/98.
Parish : Coull
Kirkyard : Terry Chapel.
N.G.R. : NJ 547 082
S.A.M. : Scheduled Site.
Listing Category : Unlisted.
Boundary wall and gate piers : The boundary
walls to the yard are composed of rubble
field stones forming an oval dyke, several sections
of which have fallen down. The timber
gate is now rotten.
The Old Kirk : Nothing now remains of the
old pre-Reformation Chapel that once stood
on this site. The site itself is declared by a copse
of trees in the middle of a field, in a seemingly
remote part of the countryside.
Tombstones : There are only 2 upright tombstones
visible in the entire site, one sadly
pushed over. The site is the burial ground to
the Forbes of Corse family.
Conservation Digest : Not urgent.
The grass in the enclosure is apparently maintained
and there are no weeds. An effort could
be made to re-erect the fallen upright tombstone.
Interpretative Potential : Low.
The is nothing of any interest at Terry Chapel,
though the location gives the impression of
being wonderfully remote.
Access issues : There site is located in the middle
of a field and is identified by a copse of
trees. There is no provision for parking cars.
