Area : Marr
Parish : Auchindoir and Kearn
Kirkyard : Kearn Kirkyard.
N.G.R. : NJ 515 266
S.A.M. :
Listing Category : Kirkyard Cat. C.
Conservation Digest : Good order.
The repairs suggested above are of the most
minor remedial nature to ensure the preservation
of this yard.
Interpretative Potential : Low.
There is little of any particular interest within
this very peaceful yard.
Access issues : The yard is situated on a narrow
country road to the rear of Druminnor Castle.
There is no provision for parking cars.
Date of visit : 27/07/98.
Boundary wall and gate piers : The boundary
walls, gates and piers are in good order,
though there is a crack in the rear boundary
wall that needs to be keyed in.
The Old Kirk : There is no kirk, or remains
of a kirk within the yard.
Tombstones : There are approximately 17 recumbent
tombstones, of which one is decorated.
There are approximately 40 upright tombstones,
the majority being 19 th - century in date.
The only burial enclosure within the yard is of
a square plan with rubble-built walls and a
rounded-arch opening complete with iron gate.
The gate, which must be brushed down and
painted soon, still bears the maker’s label of
Skinner of Druminnor. The enclosure bears a
weathered white marble tablet to Sir Wllm.
Forbes of Monymusk, d. 1743, and also contains
a well-carved recumbent tombstone and
one that has shattered. This enclosure will need
to be re-pointed in the near future.
There is another burial enclosure outwith the
boundary of the yard with a roll-moulded arched
doorway. The door is locked, and its internal
condition is not known.
