of all wind directions. The nighttime histogram occurrences exceed the Gamma distribution<br />

<strong>at</strong> <strong>height</strong>s around 200 and 600 m. The vertical gradient shows distinct peaks <strong>at</strong> 120 and<br />

620 m. All four methods show a distinct drop in the BLH estim<strong>at</strong>es around 500 m and lower<br />

occurrences than the Gamma distribution both day and night. A multi-modal distribution<br />

might perform a better fit to the histograms particularly during nighttime. The reason for the<br />

fewer occurrences around 500 m is unknown.<br />

Figure 54 shows the frequency distribution of BLH estim<strong>at</strong>es in the period April 2010 –<br />

March 2011 where wind directions are from SW and NW. The BLH estim<strong>at</strong>es are found<br />

between 0–2500 m. The figure shows the interval 0 – 1500 m, as estim<strong>at</strong>es above 1500 m<br />

make up 0.4% of the total. The bin size is 20 m. The figure also shows a Gamma distribution<br />

fitted to each frequency distribution. The shape parameter, scale parameter, the mean and<br />

devi<strong>at</strong>ion of a Gamma distribution are given in Table 14. The mean BLHs are generally higher<br />

when the wind direction is from NW shown by all four BLH <strong>detection</strong> methods.<br />
