On 1 July, operations to refloat <strong>Pasha</strong> <strong>Bulker</strong> succeeded in swinging <strong>the</strong> bow<br />

through about 70º to port. The ship had been pivoted around on its stern and was<br />

pointing seawards. The operation was <strong>the</strong>n suspended to wait for more suitable tide<br />

and swell conditions.<br />

At 2138 on 2 July, <strong>Pasha</strong> <strong>Bulker</strong> was refloated. The ship, freed from <strong>the</strong> beach after<br />

24 days, was <strong>the</strong>n towed about 11 miles <strong>of</strong>f Newcastle. Svitzer used divers to make<br />

a thorough assessment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> damage and <strong>the</strong> ship’s condition. On 4 July, <strong>the</strong> ship<br />

was towed <strong>into</strong> Newcastle port (Figure 13) to carry out necessary temporary repairs<br />

before Svitzer could re-deliver <strong>the</strong> salvaged ship to its owners.<br />

On 26 July, <strong>Pasha</strong> <strong>Bulker</strong> was towed out <strong>of</strong> Newcastle after <strong>the</strong> temporary repairs.<br />

Outside <strong>the</strong> port, a salvage tug took <strong>the</strong> ship in tow for its ocean passage to<br />

Vietnam, where permanent repairs were carried out.<br />

On 25 March 2008, after being repaired, <strong>Pasha</strong> <strong>Bulker</strong> re-entered service with a<br />

different name and still managed and operated by Fukujin Kisen Company, Japan.<br />
