Discover first-hand the collections at the musée des Arts et Métiers<br />

(12am, 2.30pm, 2.45pm, 5pm)<br />

Demonstrations of Foucault’s pendulum: 12am and 5pm. Just like the<br />

great discoverer Léon Foucault, we invite you to “come and see the<br />

Earth rotate”. The museum’s treasures, general visit of the museum’s<br />

collections: 2.45pm (reservations: +33153018275). Thanks to this<br />

transversal visit, you will discover some objects that marked the<br />

history of technology, and the exceptional work of individuals such as<br />

Lavoisier or Ader…<br />

Workshop “From paper to new plastic” for children from 7 to 12 years<br />

old: 2.30pm (reservations: +33153018275). Children are invited to<br />

discover the history of packaging. Papermaking, glassmaking,<br />

aluminum-making and various plastics will hold no more secrets.<br />

During the workshop, children will create a polystyrene object.<br />

Visit of the museum’s bookbinding workshop (14:30 - 17:30)<br />

On the occasion of International Museum Day 2011, the Jeanne<br />

d’Albret museum, history of Protestantism in the Bearn region, is<br />

opening up its bookbinding workshop, which is usually closed to the<br />

public. Situated at the heart of the museum’s library, the workshop<br />

is managed and animated by the association’s voluntary workers,<br />

who work to safeguard the many books that are part of the Jeanne<br />

d’Albert museum’s collections. Come and discover the different<br />

stages of bookbinding: racking, backing, notching, etc. The voluntary<br />

workers will tell you all about the art of bookbinding and will be<br />

delighted to answer your questions.<br />
