Specialised ship conversions
The company’s specialised ship conversion capabilities include
the conversion of tankers to lightering vessels, cargo vessels to
livestock carriers, cargo vessels to container ships, power barge
conversions and the jumboisation and dejumboisation of vessels.
Offshore repairs
The group has specialised expertise in servicing offshore
platforms, including the repairing and upgrading of jack-up
drilling rigs, and the upgrading of semi-submersible rigs for deepwater
drilling.
Rigbuilding
A global leader in rig building, Sembcorp Marine has proven
capabilities in the proprietary design and building of deep
drilling offshore jack-up rigs and in the fast-track construction
of highly sophisticated dynamic positioning semi-submersible
and production semi-submersible rigs for the offshore oil and
gas industry. Other offshore newbuilding projects undertaken
by the company include the construction of heavy-lift jack-up
barges, work-over rigs and offshore platforms.
Offshore engineering and construction
Sembcorp Marine offers total solutions in the engineering,
procurement, construction, transportation, installation, offshore
hook-up and commissioning of offshore production platforms
and floating production facilities for the oil and gas industries.
The group’s specialised capabilities also extend to the fabrication,
installation, integration and commissioning of topside production
modules for fixed platforms and mega FPSOs.
GLOBAL NETWORK
Sembcorp Marine’s Singapore hub operations consist of Jurong
Shipyard, Sembawang Shipyard, SMOE, PPL Shipyard and Jurong
SML, as well as its new integrated Tuas Yard facility, supported
by Indonesian yards PT Karimun Sembawang Shipyard and PT
SMOE Indonesia.
The group’s global network includes overseas shipyards
Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz in Brazil, Sembmarine Kakinada in India,
Sembcorp-Sabine Shipyard in the US, Sembmarine SLP in the
UK and strategic operations in China.
Integrated new yard facility
Sembcorp Marine’s integrated new yard facility at Tuas View
Extension will further reinforce the company’s competitive edge,
enabling it to respond effectively to customers’ requirements
and future challenges.
The new yard facility is designed to maximise operational
synergy, production efficiency and critical mass with optimised
docking and berthing facilities, an improved dock and quay ratio,
a centralised work-efficient layout, and integrated facilities.
The 206-hectare new yard facility will be built in three phases.
Phase I, which spans 73.3 hectares, will focus on ship repair and
conversion activities and is scheduled to be completed in the
second half of 2013. Phase I will feature four VLCC drydocks
totalling 1,550,000 dwt, a 3,408 m quay, as well as workshops for
hull and fitting works, a blasting and painting chamber, warehouse
and craneage facilities. It will also house a Health, Safety and
Environment (HSE) Centre along with medical clinic facilities, a
training centre, owners’ offices and a multi-storey dormitory for
the workforce.
The new yard facility will be well-equipped to serve a wide
range of vessels including VLCCs, new generations of mega
containerships, LNG carriers and passenger ships, as well as meet
new regulatory requirements and environmental standards.
TECHNOLOGIES
Research and Development
Sembcorp Marine continues to strengthen its technological
and competitive capabilities to stay at the forefront of industry
developments and advancements.
Through sustained investments in research and development,
the group has developed proprietary capabilities, solutions
and designs, such as the innovative ‘Load-out & Mating’ and
‘Transverse Skidding’ fast-track semi-submersible construction
techniques as well as the Jurong Espadon drillship design and
the Pacific Class jack-up series.
These innovations and intellectual assets have enabled Sembcorp
Marine to further enhance its competitive edge and reinforce its
leading position in the marine and offshore industry.
