Brazilian Association of Independent Music<br />

ABMI President<br />

The ABMI–Brazilian Association of Independent Music, was founded in January of 2002, based in São Paulo, and<br />

consisting of various independent musicians, organized by Benjamim Taubkin, to discuss the organizing of this sector.<br />

It was preceded by other attempts in 1994 and 1999. In 2001 at a meeting held at Itaú Cultural with the participation<br />

of 30 local labels, it was decided to establish a national association that would represents the interests of local<br />

independent production. This asociation was defined as “Brazilian companies directed by Brazilian residents and<br />

active in the music industry”.<br />

The objectives of the ABMI are:<br />

a–Identify and foster activities of common interest and benefit;<br />

b–Divulge the achievements of independent musical production;<br />

c–Organize and maintain channels of communication between all members on subjects of common interest;<br />

d–Host an annual meeting and awards show for members to show new products, artists, etc;
