2 THE RECORDING INDUSTRY

The II Encontro took place in November 2003 at Itaú Cultural and featured various international guests. Our next
meetings will deal with the new realities within the industry and market place.
Brazilians are working to improve exportations, to sell more of their music to the rest of the world. They have a closer
approximation with their various partners - SEBRAE, the Rede Viva Favela and the community radios, the large and
small retailers, the international bodies and the other independent organizations scattered across the globe.
The ABMI is preparing itself for the future without dwelling on the difficulties of the present. We know the importance
of the independent sector and its worth in the renovation and quality of Brazilian music. We know that the world looks
at the work of the independents because from here spring the talents of tomorrow. And, finally, we know that we have
to stick together to overcome the same old problems that have been around since the start of the record industry.
