David Korse stepped
down April 4 as vice
president of Nielsen
Business Media’s
Merchandise Group
after 16 months on
the job. He plans to do
independent consulting
David Korse work while exploring
future opportunities
in the trade show sector. Korse will not
be replaced but his duties will be handled
by Chris McCabe, group sales director,
and by David Loechner, senior vice
president of Nielsen’s Retail Group.
Korse came to Nielsen after a long career
with Reed Exhibitions; served as CEO
of Imark Communications for seven
years; and headed up IDG World Expo
Corp. from 2003 until 2006. He is a past
chairman of the Center for Exhibition
Industry Research (CEIR) and served on
the board of the Society of Independent
Show Organizers (SISO) and the
International Association of Exhibitions

Kevin Neary was named executive
vice president and CFO of Ziff
Davis Enterprise, announced Steve
Weitzner, chairman and CEO. Kevin
was previously senior vice president and
CFO at Primedia and held a number
of finance positions during his 16 years
there. He replaced Eric Berk who left
the company. Reorganization in the top
ranks moved Kirk Laughlin into the
newly created position of vice president,
managing director of live events. Laughlin
had been editorial director of Ziff Davis
Enterprise Events. His role will be the
further development of the company’s
custom and branded events. Mike
Azzara joined Ziff Davis Enterprise
as senior vice president, product
management and will be responsible for
print brands and online network products.

credited with revitalizing the TechWeb

Paul Ashley will
retire this Summer
after eight years as
president of Smart
City Networks but will
remain on the board
of directors. He joined
the company in 2000
Paul Ashley from AT&T Cable
Services in Illinois.
During that time, Smart City has grown
from a small company of fewer than 100
employees to become the leading provider
of telecommunications services to the
convention and trade show industry. The
company now provides services to about
5,500 events annually at 62 convention
facilities. The McLoughlin Company has
been retained to conduct a nationwide

impact on the meetings industry at its
annual Education Foundation Dinner in
Washington, DC on April 15. Charles

Los Angeles art expert Daniel Hug was
named director of Art Cologne effective
May 1. He has been a curator, gallery
owner and organizer of international
art fairs. He is the grandson of the
famous Hungarian constructivist and
Bauhaus artist László Moholy-Nagy. Hug
replaces Gerard Goodrow. Hug will
be primarily responsible for the strategic
and artistic aspects of the German art fair
while consultants Meyer Voggenreiter
and Kathrin Luz will handle planning
