Urban Design Commission 297-2245<br />

(Planning)<br />

Reviews building permit and design applications and issues Certificates <strong>of</strong> Approval<br />

for projects in designated areas <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong>. The nine-member Commission is<br />

comprised <strong>of</strong> one citizen member with demonstrated knowledge <strong>of</strong> the district, the<br />

Chairman <strong>of</strong> the Traffic Commission, five citizens who own property or businesses in<br />

the <strong>City</strong>, and two citizens in the planning or land development pr<strong>of</strong>ession who have<br />

background and experience in his<strong>to</strong>ric preservation. One <strong>of</strong> these citizens must be a<br />

registered architect.<br />

Urban Renewal Authority 235-3771<br />

Coordinates and carries out urban renewal projects in accordance with the <strong>City</strong>’s<br />

urban-renewal plans. The five Committee members are appointed by the Mayor<br />

<strong>to</strong> three-year terms and meet at 10 a.m. on the third Wednesday <strong>of</strong> the month at the<br />

Urban Renewal Authority <strong>of</strong>fice, 204 N Robinson, Suite 2400.<br />

Youth Council 463-3340<br />

Created <strong>to</strong> give <strong>City</strong> youth an opportunity <strong>to</strong> learn about <strong>City</strong> government. The<br />

Youth Council is composed <strong>of</strong> two high school students from each ward and two atlarge<br />

students, all appointed by the Mayor <strong>to</strong> six-month terms.<br />
