dead, damaged, or stolen plants.<br />

REMOVAL<br />

The Contractor shall remove the designated trees, limbs and or underbrush as shown on the plan, in their<br />

entirety, from within the right <strong>of</strong> way in accordance with these specifications using sound established<br />

arboricultural principles or as directed by the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kernersville</strong>. The Contractor shall cut only those<br />

trees, limbs, and /or underbrush that the Project Manager has identified for removal.<br />

The Contractor shall provide equipment to perform all work necessary to complete the job as listed. Work<br />

performed by the contractor shall be in compliance with the NCDOT Standard Specifications for Roads and<br />

Structures 2012 Manual and the NCDOT Guidelines for Planting within Right-<strong>of</strong>-Way Guidelines.<br />

Removal and Disposal <strong>of</strong> all trees, limbs, and/or underbrush produced by the above operation shall be the<br />

responsibility <strong>of</strong> the Contractor. All other debris must be removed from highway right <strong>of</strong> way before<br />

payment is made. No burning or burying <strong>of</strong> debris will be allowed on highway right <strong>of</strong> way.<br />

Trees that are to be removed shall have stumps ground in accordance with accepted industry practices to<br />

a minimum depth <strong>of</strong> (6) inches below the elevation <strong>of</strong> the surrounding area. Removal <strong>of</strong> any debris shall<br />

be the responsibility <strong>of</strong> the Contractor. Use <strong>of</strong> mulch generated on-site shall not be permitted.<br />

Contractor shall take precaution to save existing crape myrtles and dogwoods.<br />

PLANTING<br />

All planting shall follow the NCDOT Planting within Highway Right-<strong>of</strong>-Way Guidelines. Work shall be done<br />

in accordance Section 1670 PLANTING <strong>of</strong> the Standard Specifications for Roads and Structures. Any<br />

substitution shall be in the same color scheme and growth habit <strong>of</strong> the plants identified in the contract.<br />

All plants that are not in a living and healthy condition within the one year warranty shall be replaced. No<br />

additional compensation will be made for replacement plants.<br />

All watering and maintenance <strong>of</strong> plants, seed, and grassed areas will be the responsibility <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Contractor throughout the duration <strong>of</strong> the contract until the final completion date. This work will be<br />

incidental to the contract.<br />

MULCH<br />

Do not re-use existing old mulch. All plants will be mulched within forty-eight (48) hours <strong>of</strong> planting.<br />

Mulch all trees/shrubs with 3 – 4 inches. Mulch stock piled on site shall not impede sight distance or<br />

cause potential hazard to vehicular and/or pedestrian traffic. Contractor shall provide appropriate load<br />

tickets to the owner specifying the quantity <strong>of</strong> material delivered.<br />
