Freight rates for different classes
• Theoretically, there are two ways of changing the freight
rate of any commodity.
• In casefreight rate of a particular commodity is to be
increased, then the same can be done
– either by increasing the freight rate for that class,
in which case freight rate of all commodities in
that class will be uniformly increased; or
– alternatively, the classification of that particular
commodity can be increased,
– so that the change does not effect any other
commodity.
