• Richard Schlessinger became a distinguished contributor to the field <strong>of</strong> synthetic organic chemistry<br />

Huizenga from Argonne N<strong>at</strong>ional Lab, a nuclear chemist and subsequently a N<strong>at</strong>ional Academy <strong>of</strong> Science Fellow<br />
(elected 1976), recommended by Marshall Blann<br />
• Recruited Andrew Kende, in synthetic organic synthesis, who gradu<strong>at</strong>ed approxim<strong>at</strong>ely 50 Ph.D.s <strong>of</strong> the current<br />
800+ total, recommended by Marshall G<strong>at</strong>es; hired Thomas Krugh in biophysical chemistry and Keiji Morokuma<br />
in theoretical chemistry<br />
