• Implemented an upd<strong>at</strong>ed upper-level labor<strong>at</strong>ory program th<strong>at</strong> involved new instrument<strong>at</strong>ion and<br />

• In 1992, 20 Ph.D. degrees were awarded in <strong>Chemistry</strong>, representing 20% <strong>of</strong> the doctor<strong>at</strong>es awarded by the<br />
College<br />
• Department achieved a 40% increase in <strong>Chemistry</strong> majors<br />
• In 1991 George McLendon was named Tracy H. Harris Chair <strong>of</strong> <strong>Chemistry</strong>, a chair he held until 1995<br />
• In 1993, was Chairman <strong>of</strong> the Inorganic Division <strong>of</strong> the ACS.<br />
• Subsequently, in 2001, was appointed editor-in-chief for the journal Inorganic <strong>Chemistry</strong>, a position he<br />
continues to hold to this day<br />
• Received the ACS Award for Distinguished Service in the Advancement <strong>of</strong> Inorganic <strong>Chemistry</strong> in 2003<br />
• Was Associ<strong>at</strong>e Dean <strong>of</strong> the College under Jack Kampmeier<br />
