• Home to three editorial <strong>of</strong>fices for ACS journals: the central <strong>of</strong>fice for Inorganic <strong>Chemistry</strong> and associ<strong>at</strong>e<br />

editorial <strong>of</strong>fices for The Journal <strong>of</strong> the American Chemical Society, and The Journal <strong>of</strong> Organic <strong>Chemistry</strong><br />

• Research Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Esther Conwell was named one <strong>of</strong> the “50 Most Important Women in Science” in the<br />

November 2002 issue <strong>of</strong> Discover. Her work has gre<strong>at</strong>ly increased our understanding <strong>of</strong> how charge flows in<br />

semiconductors and other m<strong>at</strong>erials.<br />

• Hired Alison Frontier and Nabi Magomedov in organic synthesis; Misha Ovchinnikov in the theory <strong>of</strong><br />

reaction dynamics; Man Kit Ng whose focus is in organic m<strong>at</strong>erials<br />

• The <strong>University</strong> celebr<strong>at</strong>ed its sesquicentennial in 2000<br />

• Named Charles F. Houghton Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Chemistry</strong> in 2000<br />

• From 2000-2003 Shaul Mukamel held the C.E. Kenneth Mees Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship in <strong>Chemistry</strong>; in 2001 became<br />

advisory editor for Chemical Physics<br />

• Jones received the ACS Award in Organometallic <strong>Chemistry</strong> in 2003 for his work in c<strong>at</strong>alysis<br />

• In 2003 William Jones was appointed associ<strong>at</strong>e editor <strong>of</strong> the Journal <strong>of</strong> the American Chemical Society, a<br />

position he continues until the present day<br />
