• In 1975, the American Council <strong>of</strong> Educ<strong>at</strong>ion ranked the <strong>Chemistry</strong> Department as one <strong>of</strong> the strongest in the<br />
n<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
• In 1971, Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees named the new chemistry/biology building, Hutchison Hall, in honor <strong>of</strong> alumnus<br />
Charles Force Hutchison, who served as a <strong>University</strong> trustee for nearly 40 years and who was a pioneer in the<br />
development <strong>of</strong> emulsions <strong>at</strong> the Eastman Kodak Company<br />
• In 1972, the Department moved from L<strong>at</strong>timore Hall to Hutchison Hall<br />
• During his tenure, Jack Kampmeier, Robert Kreilick, and John Muenter initi<strong>at</strong>ed a new integr<strong>at</strong>ed advanced<br />
labor<strong>at</strong>ory for B.A. and B.S. undergradu<strong>at</strong>e chemistry majors, preparing students for research in their senior<br />

• In 1975, hired Douglas Turner who started a program in biophysical chemistry with specific interests in fast<br />
kinetics in solution as studied by a laser-driven temper<strong>at</strong>ure jump method and in fluorescent-detected<br />
circular dichroism as a probe <strong>of</strong> biological structure<br />
