Cummins has no emissions of PFCs. Emission Source Identification Procedure The identification of GHG emissions sources and the accumulation of the related emissions data are supported by several functions and groups within Cummins. At the site level, support is often provided by the local HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) committees, environmental engineers, facility engineers, environmental consultants, and the business unit functional excellence leader for environment management. At the corporate level, the identification of GHG emissions sources involves input from the Safety and Environmental Council, Climate Steering Committee, Energy Efficiency Team, regional energy efficiency teams, environmental consultants, as well as support from state and federal regulatory agencies. Direct Sources Electricity use dominates as the most significant source of GHG emissions associated with Cummins’ operations. In addition, as an organization that manufactures and assembles diesel engines and related components, a substantial portion of Cummins’ overall GHG emissions are a direct result of the engine testing operations related to production and research and development. Many of the Cummins facilities in the various businesses employ processes that use natural gas-fired or electric industrial ovens or other heat treatments and related processes. The Energy Solutions Business (ESB) is a Business Unit of Cummins Power Generation that sells the natural gas & biogas-fueled generator sets as well as Environment 63
