Spherolit technology spotlights
The innovative and exclusive technology
which ERCO introduced in
Spherolit reflectors presents an
ideal light quality. The reflectors
offer many practical advan tages
to lighting designers and users.
Following their presentation at
the Light+Building trade fair in
2008, the Spherolit reflectors are
now successfully used as a comprehensive
system in sev eral new
product ranges. ERCO has effectively
reinvented a central element
of lighting technology.
The Spherolit technology
is based on the division of the
reflector into individual areas.
However, these individual areas –
we call them spherolites – have
a three-dimensional, spherical
curvature. Due to the individual
shaping of the spherolites, the
reflector characteristic can be
controlled over a wide range. The
result is spotlight reflectors that
have the same basic geometry,
i.e. diameter, depth and focal
point, but different light distribution
patterns, from narrow spot
to wide flood and even asymmetrical
light distribution. All these
characteristics share one objective
– to produce a light quality of
the highest standard. The beams
are exceptionally uniform, with-
out striations, and have both a
neat, slightly soft edge and a very
high light output ratio.
Spherolit reflectors are formed
of pressed aluminium and mirrorfinish
anodised. The manufacturing
process from the complex calculation
and computer simulation
to the manufacture of precision
tools and the production is carried
out within ERCO, which establishes
our claim to leadership in
reflector technology.
ERCO Spherolit
reflectors are
easily recognised
by the bright,
attractive appearance
of the individual
convex
spherolites.
The optical
principle of the
Spherolit reflector:
The convex
shape used for
each individual
sub area ensures
that the incident
light reflected off
them is spread
accurately. Consequently,
the
Spherolit reflector,
narrow spot,
has the flattest
The reflectors of
spotlights with
Spherolit technology
can be
exchanged without
tools in next
to no time with
other reflectors
having different
characteristics.
Each reflector is
supplied with 3
retaining springs
and safety glass.
spherolites, while
the convex shape
of the Spherolit
reflector, wide
flood, is most
pronounced.
Floodlights
The Spherolit technology produces
a rotationally symmetrical
light distribution. The wellestablished
Spherolit wallwasher
with asymmetrical characteristics
is now also joined by the Spherolit
reflector, oval flood, producing
an axially symmetrical beam. The
new floodlights in the Cantax
and Emanon ranges fitted with
these new reflectors look the
same from the outside as their
appropriate spotlight counterparts.
However, they have a wide
distribution pattern with an ovalshaped
beam and a beam angle
of approx. 30-45° to approx. 90°.
This enables them to perform the
lighting tasks of conventional
floodlights with a primarily square
front lens, like the efficient illumination
of goods presented in
rows such as on shelves or tables.
The latest advantage is that the
reflector can be set at an angle of
90° so that the oval-shaped beam
can be aligned either horizontally
or vertically – for added versatility
and flexibility.
Oval flood
Two opposite
segments with
specially formed
spherolites
spread the light
of this reflector
along one axis.
Floodlights with
Spherolit reflector,
oval flood,
are ideal for the
highly efficient
illumination, e.g.,
of product presentations.
