INFORMATICS 4 185 study of American history and of two or more world languages for study of other fields of history. Students with appropriate language competence are encouraged to participate in the university’s various programs of international study. MINOR IN HISTORY A minor in history consists of a 15 credit hour program to be arranged in consultation with a departmental advisor, and filed with the departmental office. The program for a minor must be arranged at least one semester before graduation. At least 9 of these credit hours must be at the 200-level or above. History minors must take five courses in at least two geographic areas. HIST-H 217 The Nature of History is strongly recommended for all history minors. A minimum of two courses (6 credit hours) must be taken while in attendance at IU South Bend. This cross-disciplinary program is distinct from computer science and information systems. Those programs cover the theory of a particular discipline in depth. Informatics covers a breadth of issues in various disciplines including the social and ethical issues facing our information society. Any student who wishes to major or minor in Informatics should contact the director of informatics as soon as possible to arrange for academic advising. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN INFORMATICS The degree requires a total of 122 credit hours including the following: GENERAL-EDUCATION CURRICULUM (33 CR.) (All courses are 3 credit hours, unless otherwise designated.)
