RECOMMENDED COURSES<br />

Psychology majors <strong>and</strong> minors are advised to take<br />

PSY-P 103 General Psychology or PSY-P 106 General<br />

Psychology–Honors as soon as possible since it is the<br />

prerequisite for all other psychology courses.<br />

Note: PSY-B 190 <strong>and</strong> PSY-B 399 Human Behavior <strong>and</strong><br />

Social Institutions do not count toward the psychology<br />

major or minor, nor do they substitute for PSY-P 103<br />

General Psychology as a prerequisite for any other<br />

psychology courses.<br />

Course work in the physical <strong>and</strong> biological <strong>sciences</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> a sound foundation in mathematics is advised for<br />

psychology majors. Students planning graduate work in<br />

psychology are encouraged to become involved in faculty<br />

<strong>and</strong> independent research projects <strong>and</strong> should discuss<br />

their plans for graduate school with a faculty advisor as<br />

soon as possible.<br />

A minor in cognitive science is available for students<br />

interested in topics such as artificial intelligence,<br />

philosophy <strong>of</strong> the mind, computer science, <strong>and</strong> cognition.<br />

MINOR IN PSYCHOLOGY<br />

(All courses are 3 credit hours, unless otherwise designated.)<br />

Students planning to minor in psychology should consult<br />

a departmental advisor for approval <strong>of</strong> their plans. A<br />

minor in psychology requires at least 15 credit hours in<br />

psychology.<br />

REQUIREMENTS (15 CR.)<br />

Take PSY-P 103 General Psychology or PSY-P 106<br />

General Psychology–Honors as soon as possible since it<br />

is the prerequisite for all other psychology courses.<br />

CERTIFICATE IN BASIC APPLIED<br />

BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS<br />

(All courses are 3 credit hours, unless otherwise designated.)<br />

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a technique<br />

frequently used to work with children <strong>and</strong> adults with<br />

behavior issues, ranging from autism to attention defecit<br />

hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) to conduct disorders.<br />

It is also widely used in schools, health settings, <strong>and</strong> in<br />

business management. The courses in this curriculum<br />

provide a foundation in applied behavior analysis as<br />

required by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board,<br />

Inc.® for the Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst<br />

(BCaBA) certification.<br />

The Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc.® has<br />

approved the following course sequence as meeting the<br />

coursework requirements for eligibility to take the Board<br />

Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst Examination®.<br />

Applicants will have to meet additional requirements to<br />

qualify, including completing an approved internship<br />

<strong>and</strong> sitting for the BCaBA licensing examination. This<br />

<strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>University</strong> certificate in basic applied behavior<br />

analysis would not cover those requirements.<br />
