New Campus spreading over an area of 34.50 acres. In the presence of a sizable crowd of about 400 people
, ranging from Religious Sisters and Fathers, Diocesan clergy to lay people, students of XITE, workers of
Tata Growth Shop from TAYO, children from NGO SEEDS, and Labour Union people, the Chief Guest
for the occasion, Mr. Nerurkar, lauded the efforts of Jesuits in giving the quality education to the less
privileged people of our country, especially the tribal. He assured XITE of all possible help for its
development in imparting vocational courses to the tribal youth of this region.
Earlier in his welcome speech, Fr. E.A.Augustine, Director, XITE, spoke with a great hope of establishing
in another ten years an institution in the new campus that will cater to the students ranging from KG to PG
and, God willing, it will turn into a university some day. Then came the turn of Fr. Mike T. Raj, the
Provincial, who as the Chairperson of the XITE Governing Body, set the right tone by drawing the
attention of the t audience towards the lopsided development wherein the poor remain at the back and rich
hop ahead in all spheres including education – in this context he placed the importance of institutes like
XITE.
The whole program was not only speeches but fun and fare too. Right in the beginning Mr. Nerurkar was
welcomed by traditional washing of hands and led to the podium by XITE girls dancing and singing. Then
there was welcome song sung by the XITE Choir and also a “Shower of Blessing” to give a religious flavor
to the whole occasion. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Fr. Gilbert D’Souza, the Principal of
XITE. On the whole it was a memorable day for all who came to witness the ground breaking ceremony.
