first 1951 census of the Independent India has been removed since 1961 Census. Secondly, the Scheduled<br />

Tribes, who migrate to various cities within India, are often excluded from the Census both in their places<br />

of origin as well as in the places of their destination/residence. This deprives them of their identity and<br />

right of franchise. Keeping these 2 important concerns of the tribals in mind, and the importance of<br />

collective bargaining from the Census Commissioner for inclusion of these 2 columns in the Census Format<br />

for 2011, Indian Social Institute (ISI) and South Asian Peoples‟ Initiatives (SAPI) is organizing a National<br />

Workshop on “Census 2011: Identity for Tribal Religion and Tribal Migrants”.<br />

Dates: Dec 13-15, 2009<br />

Venue: ISI Delhi.<br />

The workshop is only a beginning of the campaign which will go on at state levels in the coming years.<br />

b) International Workshop on: “Jesuit Advocacy: Better Governance of Natural Resources”<br />

Jesuits in Social Action (JESA) in collaboration with Social Justice Secretariat (SJS) Rome and the Social<br />

Apostolate Coordinators of Africa & Madagascar and East Asia & Oceania Conferences with the<br />

partnership of Alboan, Spain is organizing an International Workshop on "Jesuit Advocacy: Better<br />

Governance of Natural Resources”.<br />

Dates: Feb 13 - 23, 2010 Venue: XISS, Ranchi.<br />

Around 25 participants from these three Conferences are expected to participate in it. Another 15<br />

participants from India will participate only on the first 3 days more as observers.<br />

c) National Conference on: “Resurgence of Religious Identity and Violence: Causes, Consequences<br />

and Response”<br />

Indian Social Institutes (ISIs), Bangalore and Delhi are organizing a National Conference on “Resurgence<br />

of Religious Identity and Violence: Causes, Consequences and Response”.<br />

Dates: Feb 25-28, 2010 Venue: ISI, Bangalore.<br />

Total number of participants will be around 100. Participants will be: Heads of grassroots<br />

Dalit/Tribal/Minority organizations, College Students/Lecturers, Religious leaders and Secular &<br />

Progressive writers & Journalists.<br />

GOLDEN JUBILEE OF XTTI: INVITATION TO ALUMNI<br />

This year we celebrate the Golden Jubilee of XTTI.<br />

On the 22nd of February 2009, Fr. General , Fr. Adolfo Nicolas, S.J inaugurated the Jubilee Year at the end<br />

of a Light and Sound Programme. organized for the occasion. Since then we had staff training programme<br />

and formators programme in connection with the Jubilee.<br />

We will be very happy to receive from you any anecdotes, humorous memories of your life at XTTI that<br />

could become part of the souvenir we hope to bring out at the time of the closing of the Jubilee Year.<br />
