October and November were the months of great learning, testing and encouragement for us. We began our first semester exam on 12 October and finished on 28 October. Soon after the exams, we went to give orientation programs in St. Gerosa School. Keeping in mind our mission, “the fire we have,” we had gone to enkindle this fire in a village called Jyotinagar, while Mahesh stayed at home to complete his project. It was an enriching experience to be with the villagers. To build the community in mutual understanding, we began our Community Days on November 7 for three days. In “fighting” we understood the love for each other and in “caring” we found the openness to each other. The visitation of Jerry, our PCF, to Asha Kiran community was a great blessing for us. It was a time of sharing our highs and lows and to express our integration of our life with our studies. We were very privileged to visit our PCF‟s Jerry‟s home. To spend our semester holidays in a fruitful manner, we went for a cultural tour. We were out for four days. We visited some temples in Haasan and went to Bangalore. We returned on November 14. We started the Personality Development Program on November 19, given by Fr. Ephrem SJ (KER). It was a time to know our strengths and weaknesses. Then we finished our semester holidays with a Tridum. From 23 November we started our usual classes with great zeal and enthusiasm. -Ranjit Kerketta BASAHATU At the beginning of November we had a number of events taking place in and around our school campus. Fr Provincial came on November 2 to make his Annual Retreat in our place. The campus, far from the madding crowd, provided him just the right atmosphere – silent and prayerful. We were very much inspired by the way he carried himself during his retreat. The second week of November found Paul Mathew extremely active as he as busied himself for the celebration of the Khuntpani Feast, which proved to be a very memorable and successful one. Thank you, Paul, for your untiring work. Sushil Jojo kept him company supporting him in his endeavours. Sushil Jojo has been appointed as the first Superior of Basahatu community. So is it any wonder that he often calls us together as a community for a dialogue! The boundary wall around our school is now complete. In some places it is as high as 7 feet with an equally high gate. It looks beautiful! We are busy planting many trees and cultivating a vegetable garden. We are happy to report that nowadays we enjoy the taste of garden fresh vegetables at meal times. Kishore arranged a number of football matches with the neighbouring Government Schools in order to make his school team strong. This year also our Munna-Munni team participated in „Kolhan Catholic Minority Schools Munna-Munni Football Tournament‟ which was held at St Xavier‟s Parish School, Chaibasa from November 13-15. Unfortunately, both our teams lost in the semi-final. However, one of our girls got the Best Player award. On November 13, a health camp was held at our school by Sr Suchita, SRA, Miss Arati and her team members for our school children. Their skits meant to impart valuable life-long information were very creative and innovative. Our students enjoyed them very much. Thank you, Sr Suchita, for your selfless service. - Kishore Lugun
