It’s Official – We’re Expecting (114 New Members)!

As the New Member Committee wraps up an exciting, eventful
summer of recruiting efforts, we take pause (a very short pause) to
reflect on our success! We want to thank Erin Schultz, Recruiting
Director, for her tireless efforts. Erin organized our recruiting events,
handled communication with potential New Members and exceeded
our recruiting goal with ease and grace. Congratulations Erin! With the
one of the largest JLM New Member classes to date, the New Member
Committee is “all hands on deck” and enjoying the ride.
Member in Motion: Jen Abel
When did you join the League? I joined in 2008
as we were kicking off our 85th year.
What have been some of the most significant
lasting contributions you have made to the
League and the community? As part of the
Communications team, I am enthusiastic to help
with updating our League brand – bringing our
materials closer to representing the passion,
generosity and energy of today’s League
women. Rebranding the MINI, designing the New
Member flyer and 85th Booklet have been my
most recent projects.
How has the League changed your outlook on
volunteering? Since joining the League, I’ve seen
that giving has no boundaries and I don’t miss
the chance to share my League experiences with
others. I often catch myself smiling as I recount
the projects that leave a significant impression
on the lives we touch. And, now when someone
says, “I’m looking for something more fulfilling,”
I speak with confidence and pride about the
differences our League makes.
What inspires you? Many things inspire me: a
good challenge; the moment everything clicks;
passion for a hobby; being part of a team with
a common goal; music; and that time in the
morning when the air is crisp, before all the
chaos of the days begins. (I’m not an early
morning person but moments like these have me
thinking I could be!)
Who is your role model? My parents -- their
humor, loyalty, strength and ability to see the
up-side to every situation continue to influence
my life.
On July 30, we hosted a New Member Registration Social at the
home of Sustainer Claudia Sefton. We are so thankful to Claudia
for graciously opening her home to our committee and to our New
Members! The Registration Social provided New Members the
opportunity to get more information about the JLM, meet other New
Members and complete their registration.
The New Member year officially began August 22 with the New
Member Kick-Off at The Woman’s Club. We spent the morning
informing our New Members about the League and letting them know
what to expect during their first year. We also introduced the New
Members to their Core Groups and Sister Core Groups.
We are exemplifying the theme of Members in Motion with our
recruiting efforts and record class size. The women of the New
Member class are dynamic, talented individuals with experiences
and skills worth sharing. Each month we will feature women from our
New Member class and the experiences they have brought to or had
with the League. With 114 New Members participating in training and
joining committees in November, we know we are well on our way to a
successful year of Members in Motion!
What is your favorite quote? “Not everything that
can be counted counts, and not everything that
counts can be counted.”
