Janice Bevan<br />
Director Community<br />
Janice joined <strong>Ku</strong>-<strong>ring</strong>-<strong>gai</strong> Council as the<br />
Director Community Services in 2000.<br />
Responsibilities at the time included<br />
libraries, child care, children’s <strong>and</strong> youth<br />
services, community facilities, aged <strong>and</strong><br />
disability services, leisure services <strong>and</strong><br />
cultural development. While retaining<br />
these original responsibilities, the<br />
Community directorate has now exp<strong>and</strong>ed<br />
to incorporate festivals <strong>and</strong> events,<br />
communications <strong>and</strong> media liaison,<br />
customer service, the management of<br />
sports fields, tennis courts <strong>and</strong> golf courses,<br />
<strong>and</strong> the delivery of recreational programs to<br />
the community.<br />
Janice has extensive experience in<br />
local government in the disciplines of<br />
library management, cultural planning,<br />
communications <strong>and</strong> marketing. She<br />
has also held positions on regional<br />
organisations of councils representing<br />
libraries <strong>and</strong> cultural development. Janice’s<br />
formal qualifications include degrees in<br />
library <strong>and</strong> information science <strong>and</strong> art<br />
history, along with master’s studies in<br />
cultural <strong>and</strong> media policy.<br />
The focus for the directorate for the coming<br />
years will be to work closely with the<br />
Strategy directorate in planning for new<br />
community facilities. A refurbishment of<br />
the Gordon library is planned for next year<br />
along with upgrades to the seniors’ centres<br />
in Lindfield <strong>and</strong> Turramurra.<br />
Tino Caltabiano<br />
Acting Director Corporate<br />
Tino holds a Degree in Business <strong>and</strong> a Master of<br />
Accounting, is a Certified Practicing Accountant<br />
(CPA) <strong>and</strong> has worked in local government for over<br />
33 years. Previously Tino was employed as Finance<br />
Manager at War<strong>ring</strong>ah Council, commencing with<br />
<strong>Ku</strong>-<strong>ring</strong>-<strong>gai</strong> as Finance Manager in July 2007.<br />
Council’s Corporate directorate is responsible for<br />
the provision of internal services for the organisation<br />
<strong>and</strong> statutory information to the community, State<br />
Government <strong>and</strong> other legislative bodies. The<br />
directorate incorporates five areas of responsibility<br />
including: finance, information management, records<br />
<strong>and</strong> governance, human resources management<br />
<strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> information services.<br />
Some of the major projects the Corporate directorate<br />
will focus on in the future include the management<br />
<strong>and</strong> improvement <strong>and</strong> functionality of corporate<br />
systems such as Council’s L<strong>and</strong> Information System,<br />
WHS (OHS) Management System to ensure legal<br />
compliance. Improve our integrated information<br />
system that facilitates the provision of improved<br />
information technology services <strong>and</strong> provide an<br />
exp<strong>and</strong>ed e-business capability to enable internal<br />
<strong>and</strong> external customers to conduct business with<br />
Council <strong>and</strong> access information electronically.<br />
Identify, prioritise <strong>and</strong> implement the key actions<br />
contained in the workforce management action<br />
plan, ensu<strong>ring</strong> employee development is strategic,<br />
supported <strong>and</strong> sustained through training <strong>and</strong><br />
development programs. Secu<strong>ring</strong> the delivery of<br />
the long term service requirements by providing a<br />
comprehensive governance framework that meets<br />
the statutory obligations of a Public Office, <strong>and</strong> in<br />
accordance the NSW State Records Act 1998. To<br />
provide high quality, accurate <strong>and</strong> timely financial<br />
information that meets all legislative requirements<br />
<strong>and</strong> develop sound financial management policies<br />
<strong>and</strong> practices that ensure Council’s long term<br />
financial sustainability. Continuing to implement<br />
our Risk Management Strategy <strong>and</strong> improve the<br />
delivery of goods <strong>and</strong> services through best practice<br />
procurement.<br />
