2.0 – Introduction<br />
2.1 Background of <strong>Sendero</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Plans</strong><br />
<strong>Sendero</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Plans</strong> (<strong>Sendero</strong>) is a local non-profit corporation based in Austin, Texas and licensed as a<br />
community-based <strong>Health</strong> Maintenance Organization (HMO) that serves Central Texas. <strong>Sendero</strong> is sponsored<br />
by the Travis County <strong>Health</strong>care District, doing business as Central <strong>Health</strong>, which is providing organizational<br />
and financial resources to enable <strong>Sendero</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Plans</strong> to become a major player in improving health care<br />
access for people in Central Texas. Beginning March 2012, <strong>Sendero</strong> will provide services to the Medicaid<br />
STAR and CHIP population in Travis and surrounding counties of Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays,<br />
Lee, and Williamson.<br />
Mission Statement<br />
<strong>Sendero</strong> is committed to providing comprehensive healthcare coverage and to arrange for innovative, high<br />
quality and cost-effective medical services for health plan Members within Central Texas.<br />
Name Selection<br />
<strong>Sendero</strong> means “path” in Spanish. <strong>Sendero</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Plans</strong> is your pathway to better health in Central Texas.<br />
Provider Network<br />
<strong>Sendero</strong> will develop collaborative relationships with physicians, hospitals and other healthcare providers to<br />
improve access, efficiency and quality of care for our Members. We are committed to understanding local<br />
provider’s requirements. As a non-profit corporation, <strong>Sendero</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Plans</strong> will reinvest any surplus earnings<br />
to strengthen local healthcare infrastructure and improve healthcare for people living in Central Texas. We are<br />
based in Austin with a local management team to serve Members and providers. We will work collaboratively<br />
with physicians and other providers to facilitate access and continuity of care.<br />
Products<br />
Under a contract with the Texas <strong>Health</strong> and Human Services Commission (HHSC), <strong>Sendero</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Plans</strong><br />
functions as an administrator for the STAR/Medicaid managed care and Children’s <strong>Health</strong> Insurance Program<br />
(CHIP/CHIP Perinatal) programs in the eight county Travis Service Delivery Area.<br />
