<strong>Sendero</strong> Members have the right to make a self-referral for certain services. Unless otherwise specified, selfreferral<br />

is permitted for both STAR and CHIP Members. Members may self-refer for:<br />

In-network or Out-of-network Self-referral<br />

Out-of-area emergency services<br />

Family planning services<br />

Dental services for STAR Members 20 years of age and older<br />

Texas <strong>Health</strong> Steps medical case management services for STAR Members can be reached by calling<br />

Texas <strong>Health</strong> Steps toll-free 1-877-847-8377 (1-877-THSTEPS) Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8<br />

p.m., Central Time.<br />

Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) case management services for infants and toddlers with<br />

developmental disabilities can be reached by calling the DARS Inquiries Line at 1-800-628-5115 or<br />

send an email message to dars.inquiries@dars.state.tx.us. For the hearing impaired call, TDD/TTY 1-<br />

866-581-9328.<br />

Children and Pregnant Women (CPW) case management services provides services to children with a<br />

health condition/health risk, birth through 20 years of age and to high-risk pregnant women of all ages,<br />

in order to help them gain access to medical, social, educational and other health-related services. CPW<br />

can be reached by calling the Texas <strong>Health</strong> Steps Outreach and Information Hotline: 1-877-847-8377<br />

Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Central Time.<br />

School <strong>Health</strong> and Related Services (SHARS) program services enables school districts in Texas to obtain<br />

federal Medicaid reimbursement for certain health-related services provided to Medicaid-eligible children with<br />

disabilities enrolled in special education. Current SHARS services include: assessment, audiology,<br />

counseling, school health services, medical services, occupational therapy, physical therapy,<br />

psychological services, speech therapy, special transportation and personal care services. These services<br />

must be provided by qualified professionals under contract with or employed by the school district/ssa.<br />

Furthermore, the school district/ssa’s must be enrolled as Medicaid providers in order to bill Medicaid.<br />

To refer to SHARS for case management, a provider should write a prescription for the Member’s<br />

school for each service needed (PT, OT, SLP, etc.)<br />

Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative (DARS) case management services for STAR Members such<br />

as those with disabilities and / or developmental delays. For information on Early childhood<br />

intervention services, Rehabilitation services, Services for people who are deaf or hard of hearing,<br />

Services for people who are blind or visually impaired, Disability determination services, contact DARS<br />

at 1-800-628-5115 or TTY 1-866-581-9328 or via the web at DARS.Inquiries@dars.state.tx.us<br />

Department of State <strong>Health</strong> Services (DSHS) case management services for STAR Members such as<br />

those with chronic or infectious diseases, and newborn screening can be reached at 1-800-252-8023.<br />

Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) case management services for STAR Members<br />

such as those age 21 and older who would qualify medically and financially for nursing facility care, or<br />

individuals with disabilities who are not self-sufficient and who might otherwise be subject to<br />

unnecessary institutionalization or to abuse, neglect or exploitation. DADS can be reached at 1-800-<br />

458-9858<br />
