• Some treatments of communicable disease include
antibiotics (bacterial infections), or treatment of the
symptoms involved
• Prevention of communicable diseases includes washing
your hands, avoid direct contact with an infected person,
avoid bites from animals or insects, avoid contact with
contaminated objects
• Sexually transmitted diseases are communicable diseases
spread by sexual intercourse, blood to blood contact,
sharing of IV drug needles, or passed from the mother to
child through pregnancy or breast feeding
• There are over 20 STO's. Some common STO's include
Chlamydia, Herpes, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, AIDS, Genital
Warts, Pubic Lice, and NGU
.Symptoms of STO's include burning when urinating,
unusual bleeding or discharge, pelvic pain, sores or warts
in the genital area, flu-like symptoms, chancre, rash, etc.
• Treatment of STO's can be antibiotics for some such as
Gonorrhea and Syphilis. Others such as AIDS and Herpes
have
• no cure, and can only be treated for the symptoms.
Treatment can be through personal physician, health clinic,
and hospital or walk-in treatment facilities.
• Prevention alf STO's include avoiding direct contact with an
infected person, having a lifelong monogamous
relationship, using protection during intercourse, and
limiting sexual partners.
• Abstinence and avoiding illegal drug use can reduce the
risk of acquiring and sexually transmitted disease.
• Non-communicable diseases include some hereditary
diseases and environmental diseases such as cancer,
heart disease, diabetes, progeria, sickle cell anemia,
