2013 action for transformation<br />
A selection of companies engaging in each country have outlined their investment plans by signing “Letters of Intent”. Grow Africa has<br />
not yet worked with Kenya for a targeted promotional effort to generate such commitments, so we have relatively few companies from<br />
which to gather progress reports. Nonetheless, for 2013, the following statistics aggregate any data shared by these companies in the<br />
spirit of mutual accountability.<br />

Investment pipeline<br />
•¡<br />
The domestic private sector, through the<br />
KAAA, is convening stakeholder sessions to<br />
identify opportunities for investment.<br />

A number of county governments have<br />
convened investment forums to attract new<br />
investments to their area. The KAAA will<br />
work with the County Forums to run parallel<br />
Agribusiness Forums.<br />

A coordinating team has been convened<br />
by ASCU to identify priority value chains<br />
and will also follow through on the<br />
implementation of LOIs.<br />

The National Irrigation Board is supporting<br />
county governments to put 500 acres<br />
(spread across the counties) under<br />
irrigation.<br />

The GoK has identified a one million-acre<br />
flagship project for irrigation and food<br />
security in Galana-Kulalu, with $40 million<br />
allocated for the first phase.<br />

Funds allocated to mechanise agriculture<br />
have been used by county governors to<br />
purchase tractors to facilitate production<br />
and lower the costs of land preparation.<br />

The GoK has begun an ambitious<br />
programme to generate 5,000 MW of power<br />
by 2016, up from the current 1,660 MW.<br />
Delivery and implementation<br />

The ASCU is strengthened and now<br />
incorporates the Ministry of Industrialisation<br />
and Enterprise Development, the Ministry of<br />
Environment, the Ministry of Lands, and the<br />
Ministry of East African Affairs as well as to<br />
integrate issues within the purview of both<br />
national and county governments.<br />
