Winter sports like skating and skiing are
popular in the parts of our world where
cold winter temperatures turn water into
ice and rain into snow. Sliding, gliding
and jumping on slippery or snowy hills
on skis, on skates or on seats with
runners under them are great fun for
children and adults in countries that have
cold winters. “Only sports widely
practised in at least 25 countries and on
three continents may be included in the
programme of the Olympic Winter
Games” (Olympic Charter).

Most of these sports require equipment
and sometimes advanced technology.
Carry out a research project on the
technical requirements for Olympic level
competition in one of these sports.
