Facilities and Event Management<br />

Dublin Castle.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Dublin Castle Conference facilities and the visitor services in the Dublin Castle<br />

complex generally had a very busy year in <strong>2005</strong>. 501 separate events took place in the<br />

complex and 151,080 people visited the State Apartments, participating in approximately<br />

6,500 individual guided tours.<br />

As usual, the nature <strong>of</strong> the events held in the Castle complex was varied and included<br />

State dinners, international conferences, music concerts and art exhibitions. <strong>The</strong> total<br />

attendance at these events was in the region <strong>of</strong> 55,000.<br />

<strong>The</strong> aforementioned event management and visitor services functions are a central part <strong>of</strong><br />

the work undertaken by the OPW staff in Dublin Castle. <strong>The</strong> Dublin Castle management<br />

team also provide a full property management service to all the occupants <strong>of</strong> the Dublin<br />

Castle complex and the successful performance <strong>of</strong> this aspect <strong>of</strong> their work continued in<br />

<strong>2005</strong>.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Royal Hospital, Kilmainham (RHK)<br />

<strong>The</strong> OPW Facilities and Event Management Unit support, in association with the Irish<br />

Museum <strong>of</strong> Modern Art (IMMA), the conference and event management operation at the<br />

prestige RHK venue. <strong>The</strong> RHK had a very successful year in <strong>2005</strong> hosting 90 events<br />

during the year with a total attendance <strong>of</strong> approximately 20,024 people<br />

Farmleigh<br />

Farmleigh played host to a number <strong>of</strong> important State visits during <strong>2005</strong> including<br />

residential stays by Heads <strong>of</strong> State and leading dignitaries from Japan, Canada, Hungary<br />

and Bulgaria.
