Government Supplies Agency<br />
Procurement Service<br />
<strong>The</strong> Government Supplies Agency (GSA) provides a centralised procurement service in<br />
markets that are amenable to aggregation, for Government Departments and <strong>Office</strong>s. <strong>The</strong>se<br />
goods and services are generally commodity type items available from stable supply<br />
markets. <strong>The</strong>y are items that are commonly used across the State <strong>of</strong>ten in high volumes.<br />
<strong>The</strong> total value <strong>of</strong> the goods and services utilised by Client Departments through<br />
Government Supply Agency contracts in <strong>2005</strong> was E54,928,053. A breakdown per market<br />
is provided in the following table:<br />

<strong>The</strong> GSA continued to develop its expertise in the Energy Market in <strong>2005</strong>. <strong>The</strong> GSA was<br />
nominated by the Department <strong>of</strong> Finance as the lead agency to act on behalf <strong>of</strong> the Central<br />
Government sector in the Electricity market. GSA Natural Gas competitions in <strong>2005</strong> resulted<br />
in price reduction in excess <strong>of</strong> 25% from the standard market rate.<br />
Development <strong>of</strong> aggregation has resulted in increased leverage in the Uniform Clothing and<br />
Military Footwear markets. That has resulted in an 8% reduction in uniform prices over those<br />
achieved three years ago and a 30% reduction in the cost <strong>of</strong> footwear when compared with<br />
spot market prices.<br />
<strong>Public</strong>ations<br />
<strong>The</strong> Agency's Government <strong>Public</strong>ations Service continued to provide a retail and mail-order<br />
service for the sale and distribution <strong>of</strong> Government <strong>Public</strong>ations. Sales in <strong>2005</strong> amounted to<br />
E979,000.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Government Supplies Agency publishes Iris Oifigiúil, the Government Gazette, twice<br />
each week. An Internet version <strong>of</strong> Iris Oifigiúil is also available and can be accessed at<br />
www.irisoifigiuil.ie.<br />
