Few activities produce such great benefits
for so many as school volunteering
Everyone involved in our Osceola schools – teachers, parents, administrators, and most
importantly, students reap great rewards when parents serve as Osceola Adults Serving and
Inspiring Students (OASIS) volunteers. While school staff gets a helping hand and school
administrators see millions of dollars worth of work done for free, parents benefit from
volunteer programs, too. Rewards include a sense of belonging, a better understanding of
the educational system, and the satisfaction of helping children perform better academically.
Studies show that children whose parents become involved at the schools:
• show improved performance;
• have greater self-esteem;
• show a more positive attitude toward school; and
• have better behavior.
The OASIS school volunteer program welcomes parents to work alongside us in the
schools. Each school has a volunteer coordinator who will assist parents with the
application process, volunteer orientation, and who will work with volunteers to find out
where they will be most effective. OASIS or the classsroom teacher will provide training.
Partners in Education Program
The district’s Partners in Education Program recognizes and encourages the
contributions of business and civic organizations to our schools. Partner activities include
financial contributions, in-kind donations and services, sponsorship of events, awards,
enhancement programs, career education, dropout prevention, attendance and academic
incentives, and employee volunteer release time for volunteering and mentoring.
In turn, partner schools work hard to find creative ways that can help and recognize their
business partners.
