School Board Meetings School Board meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the School District Administrative Complex, located at 817 Bill Beck Boulevard, Kissimmee. A hard copy of the agenda will be available in the Board Room on the evening of the meeting. Time is allotted on each agenda for community comments and questions as the School Board welcomes input. If you wish to address the Board about a topic not on the agenda, please complete one of the request forms located in the front of the Board Room prior to the start of the meeting. All Osceola School Board meetings are held in English. They can be heard in Spanish using the Talksystems simultaneous interpretation equipment. An announcement in Spanish precedes every regularly-scheduled Board meeting informing residents about the availability and free use of the equipment. In addition, the Osceola School District broadcasts its meetings live on the Internet and archives them online in a searchable format. Viewers who visit the Osceola School District’s website will have the option to watch live or on demand webcasts of School Board meetings. The agenda and minutes of the meetings will also be displayed, and synchronized with the video and the individual agenda items for on-demand viewing. School Entry Requirements and Attendance A resident parent or guardian admitting a pupil to an Osceola County school must produce the following documents. For further information, contact your child’s school or Student Services at 407-870-4897. 1 2 Residency requirements: at least two(2) of the following categories • Mortgage document, rental or lease agreement, property tax records; • Current utility bill (A 30-day waiver is granted when the family is just moving into the address for this provision. A date should be attached to this waiver providing information as to when the utility bill should be presented.); • Income tax records; • Proof of receipt of government benefits; or • Notarized statement signed by the owner of the home in which the parent resides with two (2) supporting documents from the owner as listed above. Migrant and homeless families may contact Special Programs at 407-870-4934. Proof of physical examination Students must have a physical exam completed within the last twelve months prior to enrollment. If the student has ever been in a Florida school, records will be requested. If no physical examination documentation is presented, the student will be required to submit documentation of a physical examination. 3 4 Immunizations All student immunizations must be up-to-date and on a Florida 680(blue) form. Proof of Date of Birth State law requires that a child must be five years old on or before September 1st of the coming school year to be eligible to enroll in kindergarten. A child must be six years old on or before September 1st of the coming school year to be eligible to enroll in first grade. Such proof can be provided with one of the following documents: • Birth certificate (certified copy), or • Certificate of baptism, with sworn affidavit, or • Two-year-old life insurance policy on child, or • Bible record, with sworn affidavit, or • Passport showing age, or affidavit of age sworn to by parent and a certificate of age signed by health officer, school physician, or licensed physician. A child must be enrolled in school if he/she will be six years old by February 1st of that school year. Every Day Counts The School District of Osceola County is committed to the concept that students must be in school on a regular basis if they are to succeed. Non-attendance in a class is classified as an absence unless the student is participating in a class activity. Absences shall be classified as: Excused Absences • Illness or injury of the student. • Illness, injury, or death of the immediate family member as defined by the United States Internal Revenue Service guidelines. At the discretion of the principal, notes from a competent medical authority may be required. Permitted absences shall be granted in advance as excused absences with approval of the principal. Arrangements for make-up work shall be made in advance with the instructor of the classes to be missed. Unexcused Absences Unexcused absences shall be all absences that do not meet the standard of excused or permitted absences.
