Letter to the Editor
The Smithtown Township
Emergency Food Pantry wants to
express our appreciation for the
articles you published this fall
about our organization. We
believe that this helped raise the
awareness of our ministry to the
community.
When the month of
November began our shelves
were looking very sparse and
our storage area was empty. Our
country is experiencing severe
economic difficulties and many
people are suffering. On a daily
basis we have seen an increase
in the number of families coming
to the Pantry and we provided
44% more Thanksgiving
Baskets this year than last.
We live within the remarkable
Smithtown Township
Community and for the past
month, every day, saw individuals,
businesses, schools, fraternal
organizations, scouts, town
employees, and church members
bringing forth donations.
We received food, gift cards, and
Special Thanks to the Community
monetary donations.
The week of Thanksgiving the
phone kept ringing with, “What
can I do to help, what do you
need?” There was a constant
stream of donations – turkeys,
pies, and everything else needed
for a true Thanksgiving dinner.
Our shelves are stocked and we
will be able to feed families during
the coming winter months,
although we will continue to
need donations to maintain our
supplies.
We thank this wonderful and
supportive community for the
outpouring of love shown
through their donations. We are
able to provide food to anyone
in our community who is in
need because so many people
care and because they are willing
to share with those less fortunate.
We express our deepest
thanks to this wonderful community
of caring people and appreciate
that we will continue to
receive your support. We think
of you as dear friends and want
you to know that you are
included in our prayers.
Seven local churches from
Smithtown and St. James staff
and maintain the Food Pantry.
We are located on the corner of
Brooksite Drive and Edgewater
Avenue in the St. Thomas of
Canterbury Episcopal Church
Parish House. We are open yearround,
Monday through Friday,
from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.
