The apparent male predominance <strong>of</strong> the sample is consistent for all sites except the<br />
Visitor’s Center (Table 6, Figure 5). If this in fact proves to be accurate, several variables<br />
might account for such a distinction. First, the Visitors’ Center receives more visitation<br />
than any other single site within the <strong>Park</strong>. Sheer numbers and a less specialized<br />
population may account for the even gender distribution at the Visitors’ Center. Second,<br />
most first-time visitors likely visit the Visitors’ Center as their first stop. Again, this could<br />
indicate a less specialized population <strong>of</strong> <strong>Park</strong> visitors. The supposed male predominance<br />
in other areas around the <strong>Park</strong> could in fact be a phenomenon that occurs as visitors<br />
become more decided on the type <strong>of</strong> experience they are seeking, and that the outlying<br />
areas <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Park</strong> are lent to a distinct category <strong>of</strong> activities.<br />
