Sequential Moti<strong>on</strong> Rates<br />
CP performed a diadochokinetic test <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> sequential and alternating moti<strong>on</strong> rate.<br />
CP sequenced open syllables with the same initial c<strong>on</strong>s<strong>on</strong>ant to repeat “puh,-puh,-puh,”<br />
and experienced difficulty producing “tuh-tuh-tuh” and “kuh-kuh-kuh” as both were<br />
changed to their voiced equivalents- “duh” and “guh.” His producti<strong>on</strong>s were halting with<br />
arrhythmic characteristics. When CP attempted sequencing alternating initial c<strong>on</strong>s<strong>on</strong>ants<br />
with differing articulatory placements such as “puh-tuh-kuh,” the task became<br />
significantly more challenging. CP’s rate and correct sequencing decreased after just <strong>on</strong>e<br />
repetiti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the sequence. Informal tests for signs <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> oral and limb apraxia revealed no<br />
abnormalities in form or functi<strong>on</strong> during n<strong>on</strong>-<strong>speech</strong> related motor tasks.<br />
Suprasegmentals<br />
Analysis <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> CP’s suprasegmental qualities during a sp<strong>on</strong>taneous <strong>speech</strong> sample<br />
determined his voice pitch to be normal for his age and gender. He was observed using<br />
int<strong>on</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> appropriately which <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>fered his listeners some semantic c<strong>on</strong>text for<br />
comprehensi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> unintelligible utterances. On several occasi<strong>on</strong>s, CP used excess equal<br />
stress <strong>on</strong> two-syllable words. As treatment progressed, the presence <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> excess equal stress<br />
(m<strong>on</strong>ostressed syllables) was observed with greater frequency. Vocal loudness was<br />
judged as appropriate. CP’s rate was difficult to determine due to his limited producti<strong>on</strong><br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> multi-word utterances. An endoscopic examinati<strong>on</strong> had been previously c<strong>on</strong>ducted <strong>on</strong><br />
CP resulting in no observable velopharyngeal closure abnormalities.<br />
