Future outlook
The economic trend for 1999 is difficult to quantify, because of the complexity of the
current world economic scenario. In fact, the growth of market demand seems to be
conditioned inevitably by the persisting crisis among the developing countries which were
harder hit by the turbulence on the financial markets.
The strategy of the Sector can only be directed towards internal efficiency programs,
which must be pursued through a selective investment policy oriented towards innovating
products and processes and by restructuring operational, central and peripheral functions.
