<strong>Electric</strong> Distribution Companies<br />
Eleven electric distribution companies (EDCs) currently serve the electrical energy needs of the<br />
majority of <strong>Pennsylvania</strong>'s homes, businesses and industries. Cooperatives and municipal systems<br />
provide service to several rural and urban areas. The 11 jurisdictional EDCs (eight systems) are:<br />
1. Citizens' <strong>Electric</strong> Company<br />
2. Duquesne Light Company<br />
3. Metropolitan Edison Company (FirstEnergy)<br />
4. <strong>Pennsylvania</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> Company (FirstEnergy)<br />
5. <strong>Pennsylvania</strong> <strong>Power</strong> Company (FirstEnergy)<br />
6. PPL <strong>Electric</strong> Utilities Corporation<br />
7. PECO Energy Company (Exelon)<br />
8. Pike County Light & <strong>Power</strong> Company (Orange & Rockland Utilities Inc.)<br />
9. UGI Utilities Inc. – <strong>Electric</strong> Division<br />
10. Wellsboro <strong>Electric</strong> Company<br />

It is the responsibility of each load-serving entity to make provisions for adequate generating<br />
resources to serve its customers. The local EDC or <strong>Commission</strong>-approved alternate supplier must<br />
acquire electric energy, pursuant to a <strong>Commission</strong>-approved competitive procurement process, for<br />
customers who contract for power which is not delivered, or for customers who do not choose an<br />
alternate supplier. The acquired electric power must include a prudent mix of spot market<br />
purchases, short-term contracts and long-term purchase contracts, designed to ensure adequate and<br />
