Members of Council and Award Recipients at the 50 th Annual Volunteer Achievement Awards
Volunteering connects people with their community by fostering new and strengthened
relationships. Indeed, volunteers are the heart of our community and make Richmond Hill a
better place to live, work and play. This year marks the 50 th Anniversary of the Richmond Hill
Volunteer Achievement Awards, given to residents who have demonstrated long-term
dedication and commitment to building a stronger community through volunteer work.
There are three award categories: the Volunteer
Achievement Award, the Enbridge Youth
Volunteer Achievement Award for those 18 years
or younger, and the Naim Malik Volunteer
Achievement Award for the Promotion of
Intercultural Friendships recognizing those
18 years or older who foster intercultural
friendship. In April 2012, the Mayor and
members of Council presented Volunteer
Achievement Awards to 11 Richmond Hill
residents who contributed their time and
energy to support a diverse group of non-profit
and municipal organizations.
Community volunteers play an important role
in the delivery of a number of Town events and
programs throughout the year. These active
residents help Town staff provide popular
programs such as Recreational Programs and
Summer Camp Programs and events such as
Canada Day, Santa Claus Parade, Concerts in
the Park, Tastes of the Hill, Doors Open and
Heritage Village Day.

meaningful opportunities to volunteer in
Richmond Hill.
