Fundraising Accomplishments Grant-Related In 2007, RtE celebrated increased success from its grantwriting efforts. RtE’s Fundraising Committee submitted a total of 20 grant proposals and letters of interest for general organizational support as well as project-related funding. Each grant proposal helps RtE advance its future environmental, education and outreach agendas, and also leads to increased recognition within the environmental and grant communities. Family Foundation and from Your True Nature in conjunction with that company’s 1% for the Planet contribution. The Fundraising Committee has an ambitious grant writing agenda for the coming year and is optimistic for continued success in 2008. • January – December 2007 RtE submitted an unprecedented 20 grant proposals to the following foundations, organizations and corporations to fund program activities, offset operational expenses, provide for professional development, capacity building, as well as making a formal request for an alternative fuel vehicle to support our annual Education and Outreach Tour: Nathan Cummings Foundation, Cornerstone Awards/Jewish Funds for Justice, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Roy Hunt Foundation, Public Welfare Foundation, Yahoo! Employee Foundation, New Belgium Brewing Company, Working Assets, Google, Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, Newman’s Organics, Make Yourself Foundation, Wolcott Family Foundation, Federal Express, Grassroots Funding Exchange, DHL, Tom’s of Maine, Frontier Airlines, and the Educational Foundation of America . • January 2007 RtE received a $1,000 grant from the Fund for Wild Nature in support of our lawsuit against the National Park Service for protection of the stretch of the Colorado River that runs through Grand Canyon National Park. • March 2007 RtE received a $5,000 grant from the Yahoo! Employee Foundation in support of our 2007 Summer Education and Outreach Tour. • June 2007 RtE entered into a sponsorship agreement with eMusic, the largest distributor of on-line music in the world. In conjunction with this sponsorship, eMusic donated $4,000 to RtE as well as donating 26,000 music download cards, which were subsequently given out for free to interested music fans at concerts and festivals throughout RtE’s annual Summer Education and Outreach Campaign. • October 2007 RtE received a $2,000 grant from New Belgium Brewing Company. • October 2007 RtE received a grant of $2,500 from Stoneyfield Farms. • November 2007 RtE received an unsolicited grant of $1,000 from the Aria Foundation in recognition of our work with Bonnie Raitt in 2005-2006. • December 2007 RtE received $250 donations from the Simon
Fundraising Events 2007annual report • January 2007 A silent auction and a special ticketed event on Jam Cruise 5 raised over $25,000 to offset RtE’s Greening Jam Cruise 5 program costs, to fund tree plantings to counteract emissions caused by the festival, and to help fulfill RtE’s 2007 environmental advocacy, education and outreach programs. • January-February 2007 Both the Winter JamFest (featuring Moonshine Still) and Everyone Orchestra tours that took place in January and February donated a portion of tour proceeds to RtE. • February 2007 In connection with Vegoose 2006, producers of the festival donated $2,250 to RtE, raised through a charity, VIP poker tournament and on-line ticket sales of VIP ticket packages. • March 2007 Tamas Estates Winery held a snowboard competition and afterparty at the Northstar Resort in Lake Tahoe to benefit RtE, raising $500 for our organization. • March-August 2007 Ticket donations from Snoe.down, 10,000 Lakes Festival, Wakarusa Festival and Gathering of the Vibes raised nearly $2,000 for RtE. • April 2007 In support of our Rock the Earth Day 2007 activities, fundraisers were held by TicketsWest, Umphrey’s McGee, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Hot Buttered Rum, Herbs and Arts and Big Blue Mountain raising over $2,000 for RtE! • April 2007 RtE held two special events in Denver, CO, during Earth Week – a Guitar Hero II competition and a benefit concert with Rob Drabkin in partnership with the Hard Rock Café and 1260 AM Progressive Talk Radio raising over $600. • April 2007 Nugs.net released Music for the Planet, a double live CD compilation featuring the Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson, the Grateful Dead, Phish, and others to benefit RtE. The release raised over $5,000 for RtE in memberships and donations over the course of the year. • May 2007 St. Johns Riverkeeper held the Blackwater Soul Review festival in St. Augustine, Florida, in which a portion of the proceeds were donated to RtE. • June 2007 RtE was one of five charities benefiting from the annual silent auction at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. The donation from Bonnaroo was in excess of $5,500! • June 2007 Boulder, Colorado’s Fox Theatre donated $1 per advance ticket sold at the box office during the month of June to RtE, resulting in a donation of $800. • July 2007 In connection with an employee match program, Lehman Brothers donated $2,000 to RtE. • July 2007 The All Good Festival held an environmentally conscious fundraiser to benefit RtE. RtE received a $1 donation for every carpooling car arriving at the festival with 3 or more people, resulting in a donation of $1,000 to RtE. • August 2007 Both the Northwest String Summit (North Plains, OR) and 4 Peaks Festival (Bend, OR) held fundraisers for RtE in which a portion of the ticket sales were donated to RtE, resulting in a combined donation of $700. • October 2007 AlohaGroove Productions and Hot Buttered Rum held a benefit concert for RtE in Honolulu, Hawaii. • December 2007 A Mimi Fishman Foundation on-line auction raised in excess of $2,000 for RtE. On-line auctions using Ebay’s Mission Fish raised an additional $1,700 for RtE. RtE greatly appreciates the generosity of everyone who donated items for auction, and acknowledges the importance of these donations in helping RtE achieve its goals and pursue its mission.
