Health and Safety Certification<br />

Classes<br />

Health and Safety courses are offered to students,<br />

faculty/staff, and community members and<br />

are conducted by American Red Cross certified<br />

instructors. Participants must be at least 15 years<br />

old.<br />

Basic First Aid Full Course<br />

The purpose of the American Red Cross First Aid<br />

program is to help participants recognize and<br />

respond appropriately to first aid emergencies. This<br />

course teaches skills that participants need to know<br />

to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill<br />

person until advanced medical personnel arrive and<br />

take over. Certification is valid for 2 years.<br />

BGSU <strong>Student</strong>s and Members $50<br />

Non-Members $55<br />

CPR with AED Full Course<br />

The purpose of the American Red Cross CPR/AED<br />

for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers<br />

program is to train professional level rescuers to<br />

respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in<br />

adults, children and infants until advanced medical<br />

personnel take over. Course includes adult, child<br />

and infant skills, the role of the professional<br />

rescuer, disease transmission prevention, use of a<br />

pocket mask and two rescuer skills. Certification is<br />

valid for 2 years.<br />

BGSU <strong>Student</strong>s and Members $75<br />

Non-Members $80<br />

Lifeguard Training Full Course<br />

Teaches how to react in an aquatic emergency<br />

based on American Red Cross standards along<br />

with certification in First Aid and CPR/AED for<br />

the Professional Rescuer. To take this course,<br />

participants must be at least 15 years old and be<br />

able to swim 300 yards. Also, participants must be<br />

able to swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10 lb. object from<br />

deep water and swim back with the brick within 100<br />

seconds. This lifeguard certification is valid for 3<br />

years. Resuscitation mask and book are provided.<br />

Women must wear a one-piece suit, and men must<br />

wear draw string swim trunks.<br />

Recertification for these courses are also<br />
