The Outdoor Program is designed to provide<br />

outdoor recreation services and educational<br />

experiences to the BGSU campus and<br />

community. Trips, workshops, the climbing<br />

wall, equipment rentals and other resources are<br />

offered to increase outdoor recreation skills and<br />

environmental awareness.<br />

Mission<br />

>> Encourage student development through<br />

experiential education in an outdoor setting.<br />

>> Promote environmental stewardship and<br />

conservation.<br />

advancement, team development, and<br />

personal growth.<br />

>> Challenge students to expand their personal<br />

boundaries and self-imposed limitations to<br />

broaden their understanding of themselves<br />

and the natural world.<br />

Climbing Wall<br />

A highlight of the <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Recreation</strong> <strong>Center</strong>!<br />

At 35 feet tall, opportunities are offered for<br />

novice, intermediate and advanced climbers. The<br />

climbing competition in the spring gives climbers<br />

the opportunity to test their skills against others<br />

in a friendly competitive event. The climbing<br />

wall is safe, fun and affordable at only $30 per<br />

semester!<br />

* Each climber takes the wall orientation/belay class or<br />

demonstrates climbing knowledge through a belay test. SRC<br />

admission (membership, day pass, etc.) are also required.<br />

Renting the Climbing Wall<br />

Base Price: $125 - 2 Hour Rental (Includes 2 staff)<br />

Participants: 15 Max (additional staff required for<br />

larger groups)<br />

Freshman Wilderness Experience<br />

The Freshman Wilderness Experience is a weeklong<br />

backpacking trip coupled with a 1000 level<br />

3-credit class only for incoming freshmen. Take<br />

a trip down the world famous Appalachian Trail<br />

in North Carolina with other freshman students<br />

before the school year begins. Trip cost is the<br />

same as for any three-credit first-year class. In<br />

addition, there is a $325 fee to cover other trip<br />

costs for the 14-person backpacking expedition or<br />

$375 for the 7-person canoeing expedition. Check<br />

Dates:<br />

Adrenaline Youth Climbing Club<br />

A program designed for youth ages eight and<br />

up which encourages skill enhancement and<br />

refinement on many levels. During each practice,<br />

climbers participate in a variety of games<br />

and lessons designed to be fun, active and<br />

educational. Trained coaches work with climbers<br />

to develop strength and balance, learn proper<br />

lower and upper body climbing techniques and<br />

create a friendly, fun social environment for<br />

everyone.<br />

Team Building<br />

Outdoor Program staff members offer team<br />

building sessions for student organizations and<br />

corporations aspiring to build a productive and<br />

positive environment where members create<br />

beneficial relationships, develop effective<br />

communication and ultimately have successful<br />

group experiences. Staff can design custom<br />

team development sessions that specifically meet<br />

the needs of any team or organization. Contact<br />

Employment<br />

The Outdoor Program seeks team players who<br />

are responsible, demonstrate good judgement,<br />

like working with diverse people and are willing<br />

to develop outdoor leadership skills and/or rock<br />

climbing skills and instruction.<br />

Equipment Rental<br />

The Outdoor Program offers this service to<br />

provide students, faculty, staff and community<br />

members the opportunity to get outdoors and<br />

experience nature at a great price. Equipment<br />

includes tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads,<br />

backpacking stoves, and hiking poles. If<br />

interested in renting outdoor equipment for a<br />

personal trip, contact the Outdoor Program office<br />

at 419.372.2146 to confirm availability and make<br />

a reservation.
