3.1.4 Livestock: In the Sankoi project, there are 705 cows, 448 buffaloes, 707 goats, 545 bullocks and 610 hens. In maximum villages poultry is the main source of livelihood and in some villages cows and buffaloes are the source of income. Mainly cows and buffaloes are the local breed. Lack of surface water, fodder and pasture availability for the animals has reduced the numbers in the project area. This leads to heavy migration of the villagers to other parts of the state. Milk production is very low in the project area. There is no dairy cooperative in any village. Average milk of cow is 1-1.5 lit/day and for buffalo is 2-3 lit/day. 3.1.5 Drinking water: Sources of drinking water in the project area are open well and pump. These provide drinking water facilities to the villagers up to 9-10 month regularly and remaining time irregularly. So these remaining months they face the problem of drinking water. The quality of the water is contaminated also. The ground water table of the villages are also very low about 40-45mt.
